The St. Louis Cardinals aim to avoid a third loss in a row when they host the New York Yankees at Busch Stadium tonight. The Cardinals just dropped two of three against the Colorado Rockies earlier in the week. St. Louis is in fourth place in the NL Central with a 61-and-61 record. The Northsiders went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven runners on base. Michael Busch homered in the losing effort, while Matthew Boyd was charged with his sixth loss after allowing two runs on two hits in seven innings. The Cubs are in second place in the NL Central at 68-and-52. They send Colin Rea to the mound against Pittsburgh this afternoon.

(Undated) — The second week of the NFL preseason kicks off tonight. The Atlanta Falcons will play host to the Tennessee Titans before the Kansas City Chiefs pay a visit to the Seattle Seahawks to start off the week’s games. Other top matchups over the weekend will include the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Cleveland Browns, the Baltimore Ravens visiting the Dallas Cowboys, and the Rams taking on the Chargers in an all-Los Angeles matchup. The second week of the preseason will conclude on Monday with the Washington Commanders entertaining the Cincinnati Bengals.

(Miami, FL) — The Dolphins are getting great news on an ailing player. Chop Robinson returned to practice on Thursday just one day after being carted off the field with a rib injury. Robinson tallied six sacks in his rookie season.

(Fort Lauderdale, FL) — Cleveland Browns rookie Quinshon Judkins won’t face charges after an alleged domestic battery incident in South Florida. The accusation stems from a July altercation in a vehicle. Prosecutors cited no video, no witnesses, and footage showing the woman without visible injuries, despite her sharing photos and a 911 call. The State Attorney’s Office ruled there wasn’t enough evidence to move forward. The NFL hasn’t disciplined Judkins, who’s still the only unsigned rookie from this year’s draft class.

(Charlotte, CA) — Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is capturing the attention of the nation. Nielsen reports the Browns’ win over the Carolina Panthers last weekend set an NFL Network preseason viewership record, with over two-point-two-million tuning in. Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, started at quarterback for Cleveland, throwing for 138 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-to-10 victory. NFL Media reports this game and the Minnesota Vikings-Houston Texans matchup are the Network’s top preseason draws since 2015.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Steelers are taking a slow approach to the preseason. Head coach Mike Tomlin told the media veteran gunslinger Aaron Rodgers won’t participate in the team’s matchup against the Buccaneers from Pittsburgh on Saturday. DK Metcalf, TJ Watt and Jonnu Smith are among the other starters who aren’t expected to play. Cam Heyward is still in a contract dispute and will also sit out.

(New York, NY) — The full schedule for the upcoming NBA season is out now. The league’s 80th regular season will tipoff October 21st with a doubleheader featuring the Houston Rockets taking on the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors going up against the Los Angeles Lakers. Meanwhile, the NBA Cup will begin group play on Halloween. The league will highlight classic and budding rivalries during Rivals Week starting January 20th with games including the San Antonio Spurs facing the Rockets and the Lakers playing the Dallas Mavericks. The NBA Playoffs are scheduled to start April 18th.

(Undated) — The University of Michigan is expected to receive the NCAA findings and penalties this morning in its sign-stealing case. Multiple sources say the report will be released publicly around lunchtime. The case centers on former staffer Connor Stalions, who allegedly ran a widespread sign-stealing scheme. Stalions is said to have attended nearly 60 games across 17 stadiums nationwide. He resigned in November 2023 amid the investigation. Other coaches, including current head coach Sherrone Moore, face possible suspensions.

(South Williamsport, PA) — All four games at the Little League World Series on Thursday ended in shutouts. Japan beat Czechia 12-0, Irmo, South Carolina beat Braintree, Massachusetts 13-0, Chinese Taipei beat Mexico 3-0 and Sioux Falls, South Dakota beat Upper Uwchlan Township, Pennsylvania 2-0. The tournament continues Friday with four more games. Canada and Venezuela will open the International bracket, followed by a matchup between Aruba and Panama. On the US side, Bonney Lake, Washington will take on Las Vegas, Nevada, followed by a battle between Honolulu, Hawaii and Fairfield, Connecticut.

The second round of the tournament at Caves Valley Golf Club will begin as scheduled.

(Richmond, VA) — The NASCAR Cup Series regular season is winding down. The field heads to Richmond Raceway for the Cook Out 400 on Saturday for the second-to-last race before the playoffs. Denny Hamlin leads the pack while Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson and William Byron rank three-through-five.
