A Wayne County jury took just 40 minutes Wednesday to find 40-year-old Amanda Ball of Fairfield guilty of unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 2 felony.
Ball was originally charged on June 3rd, 2024 with meth delivery (Class X felony) and possession of more than 15 but less than 100 grams of meth, a Class 1 felony.
The possession charge was reduced to a Class 2 felony after a forensic scientist testified that the meth seized weighed 14.5 grams—just under the 15-gram threshold for a higher charge. Two additional Class 2 felony counts of unlawful use of property were dropped before the jury began deliberations.
Following the verdict, Resident Judge Matt Vaughn ordered Ball to be held in the Wayne County Jail until sentencing, scheduled for October 16th.
A Class 2 felony in Illinois carries a potential prison sentence of three to seven years.
