DRIVER DIES IN SUV-SEMI CRASH AT I-64 REST AREA IN MOUNT VERNON

A driver was killed Friday night in a collision between a small SUV and a semi tractor-trailer at the Goshen Road Rest Area on Interstate 64 East in Mount Vernon.
Illinois State Police reported the crash occurred around 9:09 p.m. when a Buick Envista exited I-64 onto the rest area entrance ramp. The vehicle left the roadway, entered the parking lot, and struck a parked Freightliner semi.
The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. Jefferson County Coroner Roger D. Hayse confirmed the driver died from injuries sustained in the crash. The victim’s name is being withheld pending family notification.
Illinois State Police continue to investigate the incident.
