ELM RIVER CHOWDER SET FOR SATURDAY, AUGUST 30TH

By Mark Wells Aug 21, 2025 | 11:58 AM

The annual Elm River Chowder will take place Saturday, August 30th at the Chowder Grounds. Chowder will be sold by donation, available by the bowl with seating on-site, or by the bulk beginning around 12:30pm. Guests are asked not to bring glass or plastic containers for bulk purchases.

In addition to chowder, the menu will feature pulled pork sandwiches, nachos, hot dogs, pie by the slice or whole, and cold drinks. Live music and door prizes will also be part of the day’s festivities.

The Elm River Chowder Grounds are located six miles south of Clay City off Route 50 or four miles east of the Rinard Crossroads off Route 45. Signs will be posted to guide visitors.

This long-standing community tradition, now more than 100 years old, is funded entirely by donations. Vegetable preparation will begin at 7 a.m., and volunteers are welcome to help. More information can be found on the Elm River Chowder Facebook page.
