Milwaukee Brewers 4, Chicago Cubs 1              The Chicago Cubs dropped the finale of their five-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers 4-1 from Wrigley Field yesterday. Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in Chicago’s only run in the losing effort, while Shota Imanaga was charged with his sixth loss after allowing two runs on three hits in seven innings. The Northsiders are in second place in the NL Central with a 73-and-55 record. They take on the Angels tonight.

Sonny Gray earned the win after giving up three runs over five innings. Alec Burleson drove-in a pair of runs as St. Louis has won three of its last four games. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central with a 64-and-65 record. Miles Mikolas starts for St. Louis against Tampa Bay tonight.

(Undated) — The final week of the NFL preseason has arrived. The Steelers and Giants kicked things off with Thursday night victories. Pittsburgh topped the Carolina Panthers 19-and-10, and New York blew out the New England Patriots 42-10. Week Three of the preseason continues with four games on Friday highlighted by the Philadelphia Eagles at the New York Jets. The preseason wraps up Saturday night with the Arizona Cardinals hosting the Las Vegas Raiders.

(Frisco, TX) — Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones continues to stir up rumors surrounding the team’s contract negotiations with star pass rusher Micah Parsons. In an appearance on Michael Irvin’s YouTube channel, Jones said the agreement he believed he made with Parsons over the offseason would have made the defensive end the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. The owner of America’s Team blamed Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta, for the deal not being finalized. There have been no negotiations regarding a new deal since the spring. The 26-year-old is set to make 21.324-million-dollars this season on the fifth-year option of his rookie deal.

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Eagles are suffering a major injury to their wide receiver room. ESPN reports Johnny Wilson will undergo season-ending knee and ankle surgery. Wilson was taken in the sixth round of last year’s draft and had five catches in his rookie season which included a touchdown.

The nine-time All-Star has played the last two months for the Texas Rangers’ Triple-A team.

(Undated) — College football is back. A pair of ranked opponents duel in Dublin for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic on Saturday to kick off Week Zero. Number-20 Kansas State squares off against 21st-ranked Iowa State. Four other games are on the slate stateside. Idaho State and UNLV clash from Vegas, Kansas battles Fresno State at home, Sam Houston visits Western Kentucky and Hawaii entertains Stanford.

SEC presidents and chancellors approved a recommendation by the athletic directors to play a nine-game conference schedule starting in 2026. Commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement that the format will protect rivalries, increase competitive balance, and ensures SEC teams are prepared to compete and succeed in the College Football Playoff.

Las Vegas, Nevada took down Irmo, South Carolina in the United States bracket and Aruba advanced past Venezuela 3-1 on the international side. The semifinal games will be played on Saturday. Chinese Taipei will battle Aruba ahead of a matchup between Fairfield, Connecticut and Las Vegas. The third-place and championship games will be played in Williamsport on Sunday.
