Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias spent Friday in Du Quoin touring the public library and making a stop at the State Fair.
His visit follows the awarding of nearly $1.5 million in library grants to Southern Illinois libraries for Fiscal Year 2025. The funds are aimed at ensuring continued access to quality resources and programming across the region.
Locally, the Flora Public Library received $7,084.43 in per capita grants. Other area libraries benefitting include the Olney Public Library at $12,833.98, the Bryan-Bennett Library in Salem at $10,740.95, and the Effingham Public Library at $18,071.70.
Per capita grants are calculated using a statutory formula based on each community’s population.
