St. Louis Cardinals 7, Pittsburgh Pirates 6               The Cardinals opened their series against the Pirates with a bang after securing a walk-off win from St. Louis. Alec Burleson slugged a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to secure a 7-6 victory. Burleson had four hits in the victory, while Riley O’Brien picked up his second win in relief. St. Louis is in fourth place in the NL Central at 65-and-67. The Cardinals send Andre Pallante to the mound against the Pirates tonight.

The Chicago Cubs go for their fourth win in a row when they visit the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park tonight. The Cubs are coming off a sweep of the Angels over the weekend. Chicago is in second place in the NL Central with a 76-and-55 record. Matthew Boyd takes the mound for the Northsiders tonight. First pitch is at 8:45PM.

>>Report: Bengals Give Trey Hendrickson Big Raise

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Bengals are finally ending their summer-long contract standoff with the reigning NFL sacks leader. ESPN reports Trey Hendrickson agreed to a 14-million dollar pay raise this season and will now earn 30-million. However, the edge rusher is still slated to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. Hendrickson sat out of all team activities after racking up 17-and-a-half sacks last year.

(Ashburn, VA) — The Commanders have reportedly locked up their top play maker. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Washington is signing wide receiver Terry McLaurin to a three-year contract extension that could pay him up to 96-million dollars. The deal includes a 30-million dollar signing bonus. McLaurin has not practiced this fall due to a holdout and an ankle injury. McLaurin led the Commanders with 117 catches, 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.

>>Texans RB Joe Mixon To Miss At Least First Four Games

(Houston, TX) — The Texans will be without their starting running back for the start of the new season. Houston tailback Joe Mixon will not be activated from the non-football injury list, which will force him to sit out at least the first four games of the season. Mixon has been dealing with an ankle injury that forced him to miss all of the team’s summer workouts and training camp. The 29-year-old rushed for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games played with Houston last season. When the team takes on the Baltimore Ravens in Week Five will be the earliest potential return date for Mixon.

(Henderson, NV) — The Raiders are adding one of the franchise’s former first-round draft picks to the roster prior to the start of the regular season. ESPN is reporting that Las Vegas is signing wide receiver Amari Cooper to a one-year deal. The 31-year-old had 44 receptions for 547 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games split between the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns last season. Cooper was selected by the Raiders with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. In other news, wideout Jakobi Meyers has reportedly requested a trade from the team after the sides have been unable to agree to terms on a new deal. The Raiders have said they have no plans to move on from the 28-year-old receiver.

>>Report: Eagles Release Kenyon Green Months After Acquiring Him

(Philadelphia, PA) — The Eagles are already parting ways with a newly added player. CBS Sports reported on Monday that Kenyon Green was released. Philly acquired the offensive lineman back in March as part of the CJ Gardner-Johnson trade with the Texans. Green was taken 15th-overall by Houston in the 2022 draft and was expected to compete for a backup guard spot in Philadelphia.

(Ann Arbor, MI) — Michigan is naming true freshman Bryce Underwood as their starting quarterback. Head Coach Sherrone Moore confirmed the news on Monday. Sophomore Jadyn Davis will serve as the team’s backup. Underwood was the number one ranked recruit for the 2025 class and flipped to Michigan from LSU. The Wolverines play host to New Mexico on Saturday.

(Gainesville, FL) — Florida is confident its Number-1 quarterback is healthy. DJ Lagway will start the season opener against Long Island University from Gainesville on Saturday. Head coach Billy Napier told the media on Monday the gunslinger is fully participating at practice after recovering from a nagging calf injury. Lagway went 6-and-1 as a freshman for the Gators last season.

>>Alabama Guard Remains In Concussion Protocol

(Tuscaloosa, AL) — Alabama may have to deal with a shorthanded offensive line in its season opener. Starting guard Jaeden Roberts remains in the NCAA concussion protocol. Roberts has missed the last two weeks of practice, but head coach Kalen DeBoer did say on Monday that he is making progress. The Crimson Tide open the season Saturday afternoon when they visit Florida State.

>>South Carolina RB Faison Granted Eligibility

(Undated) — South Carolina football received some good news on Monday. After transferring to the Gamecocks in January former Utah State running back Rahsul Faison has been granted an additional season of eligibility by the NCAA. The 25-year-old will be a seventh-year senior after earning second-team All-Mountain West honors in 2024. South Carolina opens the season Sunday afternoon against Virginia Tech.

(Flushing, NY) — The action continues at the 2025 US Open. Second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the second round following a straight sets takedown of American Reilly Opelka. Fifth-seeded Jack Draper and ninth-seeded Karen Khachanov also collected first round wins along with Americans Frances Tiafoe, Tristan Boyer, Jenson Brooksby and Martin Damm. On the women’s side, fifth-seeded Mirra Andreeva and ninth-seeded Elena Rybakina advanced after cruising to straight set victories. Renata Zarazua upset sixth-seeded American Madison Keys, while 11th-seeded Karolina Muchova took down Venus Williams in a three-set battle. Peyton Stearns, Ann Li, Iva Jovic and Taylor Townsend were the American women to notch first round victories on Monday.
