Ameren Illinois customers who have fallen behind on their energy bills may now qualify for an additional $150 in payment assistance through their local LIHEAP agency.
The new program, announced earlier this month, is funded by a $4 million Ameren contribution to assistance agencies to help customers impacted by rising electricity supply prices and extreme summer heat. It comes in addition to nearly $58 million in assistance already provided to Ameren Illinois customers this year.
“Our Illinois LIHEAP partners are stepping up to help us distribute much-needed bill payment grants to customers who are experiencing financial difficulties due to higher electricity prices,” said Joe Solari, vice president of customer experience at Ameren. “We encourage customers who have fallen behind on their bills to reach out to a local LIHEAP agency to determine their eligibility and apply for funding.”
A one-time $150 grant is available while funds last. Customers can find their local LIHEAP agency by calling 833-711-0374 or visiting HelpIllinoisFamilies.com.
In addition, Ameren is promoting other support options:
Community Development Workshops in September and October to connect customers with funding and energy-saving strategies.
Energy Efficiency Programs, including free or low-cost home energy assessments and upgrades.
LIHEAP Season, beginning October 1, which offers bill credits, waived deposits and late fees, and natural gas discounts for qualifying customers.
