At Monday night’s council meeting, commissioners approved the annual street closure for the Grayville Community Arts Association’s Boo Bash.
The meeting lasted just 22 minutes, with no executive session, as the council moved quickly through business. Members accepted a $5,620 bid for striping and painting downtown. Mayor Travis Thompson said the project will remove old paint and re-angle parking to improve visibility.
Council also gave first approval to an ordinance that would restrict soliciting to Monday through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Residents can block it entirely with a posted sign. A final vote is expected at the September 8th meeting.
In other action, Terri Garman was awarded a $500 revolving loan grant for Wee Care Daycare to repair storm damage, and the city acquired property at 611 Water Street, which Thompson confirmed will be a teardown.
Council also approved pay estimates and change orders for the ongoing waterline project and agreed to partner with Albion as co-applicants for an Economic Development Administration grant. Engineer Rex Gower said the joint application will boost chances for funding a new regional water treatment plant.
