Pittsburgh Pirates 8, St. Louis Cardinals 3 The St. Louis Cardinals surrendered five runs in the top of the fifth during an 8-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium. Nolan Gorman homered in the losing effort, while Andre Pallante was charged with his 12th loss after allowing seven earned runs and one unearned run on eight hits in five innings. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central at 65-and-68. They send Sonny Gray to the mound against Pittsburgh tonight. The St. Louis Cardinals could be without one of their best hitters for the next week. The MLB suspended Willson Contreras for six games yesterday. Contreras was ejected from the Cardinals game against the Pirates on Monday. Following his ejection, he went on an emotional tirade, threw a bat near the umpire, and tossed bubble gum onto the field. Contreras is appealing his suspension and can keep playing until the appeal is reviewed. The St. Louis Cardinals have released their schedule for the 2026 season. The Cardinals will open the year with a home game against the Tampa Bay Rays on March 26th. The season will come to a close with a game in Milwaukee on September 27th.
San Francisco Giants 5, Chicago Cubs 2 The Chicago Cubs opened up their series against the San Francisco Giants with a 5-2 loss at Oracle Park. Matthew Boyd was charged with his seventh loss after surrendering five runs on six hits in five-and-a-third innings, while Carson Kelly and Matt Shaw drove in a run apiece. The Northsiders are still in second place in the NL Central at 76-and-56. They send Colin Rea to the mound against San Francisco tonight. The Cubs have announced their schedule for the 2026 MLB season. The Cubs will open the season at home against Washington on March 26th.

(Houston, TX) — The Texans will be without a member of their secondary due to continuous off-field issues. The NFL has placed Houston safety Jimmie Ward on the commissioner exempt list and he may not practice or attend games while on the list. Ward was initially arrested in Montgomery County, Texas, on June 12th for alleged family violence involving his fiancee in his Magnolia home. The 33-year-old was then arrested again on August 7th for violating his previous release conditions by testing positive for alcohol and spent the night in jail. The woman involved in the alleged incident filed a lawsuit in district court on August 21st.

(Metairie, LA) — The Saints have named their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. New Orleans will start second-year QB Spencer Rattler in the season opener against the Arizona Cardinals on September 7th. Rattler beat out rookie second-round pick Tyler Shough [[ SHUCK ]] after a competition that spanned more than three months following the retirement of former starter Derek Carr. The 2024 fifth-round selection will be making his seventh career start when the Saints begin the regular season. The 24-year-old completed 57-percent of his passes for 1,317 yards, four touchdowns and five interceptions while leading New Orleans to an 0-and-6 record.

(Tampa, FL) — The Buccaneers are trusting a veteran quarterback in the QB2 slot. Head coach Todd Bowles said on Tuesday that Teddy Bridgewater gives the team a “better chance” as the primary backup to Baker Mayfield. The role was held by Kyle Trask over the past two seasons, but he was cut on Monday. Bowles praised Bridgewater for already having “command” of the offense after joining the team this offseason.

(Cleveland, OH) — The Browns are carrying a pair of rookie quarterbacks to back up veteran starter Joe Flacco. Head coach Kevin Stefanski told the media on Tuesday that Dillon Gabriel will serve as QB2 while Shedeur Sanders survived cuts as the third-choice gunslinger. Cleveland traded former Steelers starter Kenny Pickett to the Raiders on Monday to help clear the path for both rookies.

(Charlotte, NC) — The Panthers decided to move on from a veteran wideout before trimming their roster down to 53 players. Carolina released wide receiver Hunter Renfrow on Tuesday. Renfrow was attempting a comeback from a bout with ulcerative colitis, which forced him to miss the entire 2024 season after being released by the Las Vegas Raiders. He lost 35 pounds while being treated for the chronic digestive disease.

(Boulder, CO) — Coach Prime has named his starting quarterback for Colorado’s season opener. Deion Sanders has named Kaidon Salter the Buffaloes’ starting signal caller for the team’s opener against Georgia Tech on Friday. Salter transferred to Colorado after being the starter at Liberty for three seasons. He was competing against true freshman Julian Lewis for the role and will replace Shedeur Sanders, who now plays for the NFL’s Cleveland Browns. The senior has passed for 5,887 yards, 56 touchdowns and 17 interceptions in 35 career games.

(Undated) — The upcoming changes to the SEC football schedule is forcing a couple teams to cancel their future matchups. Alabama and West Virginia have mutually agreed to cancel their home-and-home series that had been scheduled for 2026 and 2027. Alabama will now play East Carolina on September 5th, 2026, as well as South Florida on September 12th and Florida State on September 19th. West Virginia will play Coastal Carolina on September 5th, UT-Martin on September 12th and Virginia on September 19th.

(Arlington, TX) — The Rangers are unlikely to have their American League Cy Young Award contender for the remainder of the 2025 season. Texas right-hander Nathan Eovaldi [[ ee-VAHL-dee ]] is likely out for the season due to a rotator cuff strain. The 35-year-old is 11-and-3 with a career-best 1.73 ERA through 22 starts this season. Eovaldi underwent an MRI after shutting down a bullpen session because of continued soreness. Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said that the starter will likely be put on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday.

(New York, NY) — The schedule for the 2026 Major League Baseball season is out now. The season will get underway with the San Francisco Giants hosting the New York Yankees on March 25th in a standalone Opening Night matchup. Traditional Opening Day will see a 14-game slate on March 26th, the earliest in MLB history. The All Star Game will be played July 14th in Philadelphia. The season will end September 27th.

(Flushing, NY) — The action continues at the 2025 US Open with several top seeds moving on. Top-seeded Jannik Sinner, third-seeded Alexander Zverev, eighth-seeded Alex De Minaur and 10th-seeded Lorenzo Musetti all advanced with first round victories. 14th-seeded American Tommy Paul was the lone American to advance to the second round on Tuesday. On the women’s side, second-seeded Iga Swiatek and third-seeded Coco Gauff each claimed victories. Eighth-seeded American Amanda Anisimova will be advancing to the next round alongside fellow Americans Ashlyn Krueger and Hailey Baptiste. The second round begins Wednesday morning.
