The 2025 Du Quoin State Fair is continuing with only a few more days & nights remaining. With hours each day from 8:00 to midnight & free admission for all ages, there is a fee to park. Today is Sponsor Appreciation Day featuring Kids Day at the Fair, plus the One Man Circus, various contests, and on the Grandstand stage at 7:30 is Tesla. Friday is Illinois Tourism Day featuring the Made in Illinois Expo, the Ponytail & Pigtail Contest, the Smile Contest, and country musician Jake Owens on stage at 7:30. Saturday is Coal Heritage Day & SIU Day with livestock shows, the Heavy Horses Pull, a Lego Contest, afternoon USAC Silver Crown Auto Racing, a nighttime Demo Derby, and on stage Tucker Wetmore. Not to mention all the great fair food concessions, other live entertainment, various shows, carnival rides, games, and much more for all ages running through Labor Day night. The Illinois State Board of Education is asking school administrators from around the state to complete the board’s Modernization District Survey this week. The ISBE says the request is part of an ongoing effort to modernize data systems, reduce duplication, and build secure, user-friendly tools. The statewide survey closes tomorrow (Friday).
Illinois tourism numbers for 2024 say an all-time high for hotel tax revenue. The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Tourism has announced the state welcomed 113 million domestic and international visitors who spent more than $48 billion last year. The numbers also show the total hotel tax revenue came in at $367 million, a 14 percent increase from the previous year.
The University of Illinois and Division of Intercollegiate Athletes have added walk-through metal-detection systems for Fighting Illini home football games at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. Officials say Illinois fans will have a similar entry experience to those at other major sports venues around the country. The Fighting Illini home opener is slated for tomorrow night against Western Illinois.
