On the 105th anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment Tuesday, Congresswoman Mary Miller (IL-15) reintroduced the Safety and Opportunity for Girls Act, legislation she says is designed to protect women’s sports, privacy, and opportunities.

The bill seeks to reaffirm Title IX’s original intent by defining sex as biologically male or female. It would also allow schools to maintain sex-segregated bathrooms, locker rooms, and athletic or academic programs, while prohibiting the U.S. Department of Education from withholding funding from schools that adopt such policies.

“The Left is erasing decades of progress for women by forcing girls to compete and share private spaces with men. We cannot let this continue,” said Rep. Miller in a statement. “On the 105th anniversary of the certification of the 19th Amendment, my bill will secure Title IX’s original purpose of protecting biological girls’ sports, privacy, and opportunities.”

The legislation is cosponsored by Reps. Nancy Mace, Diana Harshbarger, Ben Cline, Tim Burchett, Lauren Boebert, Glenn Grothman, and Sheri Biggs. Supporting organizations include Concerned Women for America, Moms for America, the American Principles Project, Moms for Liberty, Parents Defending Education, the Family Research Council, and Family Policy Alliance.

Representative Miller currently serves as chair of the Congressional Family Caucus and is a member of the House Committees on Agriculture, Education and Workforce, and House Administration.
