The number-12 Illinois Fighting Illini kick off their 2025 football season with a game against Western Illinois at Memorial Stadium tonight. Luke Altmyer returns as the team’s starting quarterback after leading the Illini to a 6-and-3 record in Big Ten play and a 10-and-3 record overall last year. Tonight’s game kicks off at 6:30PM and can be heard on WFIW-AM 1390 on the Illini Radio Network powered by Learfield. Pregame activities start at 5:30PM.

Daniel Palencia was charged with his fourth loss in relief after Jung Hoo Lee got the game-winning hit against him. Dansby Swanson and Michael Busch both homered in the losing effort. The Northsiders remain in second place in the NL Central at 76-and-58. They send Cade Horton to the mound against Colorado tonight.

Texas’ Corey Seager had an appendectomy Thursday after experiencing abdominal pain during Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels. Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young said that the 31-year-old underwent surgery in Texas and that it is too early to know how much time the two-time World Series MVP will miss. Seager will be placed on the 10-day injured list.
