Southern Illinois is in for a picture-perfect Labor Day. The National Weather Service in Paducah say dry conditions and comfortable temperatures in the low to mid-80s, along with gentle northeasterly breezes, will make for ideal outdoor plans.
Today is expected to remain quiet, but by tomorrow, increasing cloud cover and a few scattered showers or storms could move into the region as energy approaches from the north and west.
The bigger change arrives mid-week, as a strong cold front sweeps through Wednesday night into early Thursday. That system is expected to bring another chance for showers and possibly a rumble of thunder.
Behind the front, temperatures will take a sharp dive. Highs on Thursday may struggle to reach the low 70s, with overnight lows dropping into the 40s by Friday morning—conditions more typical of early October than early September. Forecasters say some locations could even flirt with record cool temperatures.
