Carson Kelly singled-home the game-winning run in the 10th inning to secure a 7-6 victory for Chicago. The catcher tied the game with a two-run homer in the eighth as the Cubbies have won three-of-four. The Northsiders are in second place in the NL Central at 79-and-59. They send Shota Imanaga to the mound against the Braves tonight.

Athletics 11, St. Louis Cardinals 3 Sonny Gray struggled against his old team as the St. Louis Cardinals were crushed by the Athletics 11-3 at Busch Stadium. Gray was charged with his eighth loss after allowing seven runs on three home runs and ten hits in six innings. Ivan Herrera went deep in the losing effort. The Cardinals have dropped four of seven. The Cardinals aim to avoid a third loss in a row when they host the Athletics at Busch Stadium tonight. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central with a 68-and-71 record. Miles Mikolas is scheduled to start tonight’s game. First pitch is slated for 6:45PM.

UNC Blown Out In Belichick Debut

(Chapel Hill, NC) — Six-time Super Bowl champion head coach Bill Belichick is beginning his college coaching career with a loss. Belichick’s North Carolina Tar Heels were blown out 48-14 Monday night at home against Texas Christian University. North Carolina scored on the team’s opening drive, with TCU running off 41 straight points after. The Tar Heels will look to rebound on Saturday against Charlotte.

(Agoura Hills, CA) — The Rams are expected to have their franchise quarterback on the field for Week One. Los Angeles coach Sean McVay said that Matthew Stafford is expected to start the team’s season opener against the Houston Texans on Sunday. Stafford missed nearly the entire first month of training camp while dealing with an aggravated disk in his back. He has been a full participant in practice since his return on August 18th. The 37-year-old is entering his 17th NFL season and is just 191 yards shy of 60-thousand career passing yards. McVay also said the plan is for left tackle Alaric Jackson to play Sunday after dealing with lower leg blood clots.

(El Segundo, CA) — Chargers running back Najee Harris has been cleared for contact entering the first week of the regular season. The Los Angeles tailback missed all of training camp because of an eye injury he sustained during a fireworks mishap on the Fourth of July. The Chargers begin the new season against the AFC West rival Kansas City Chiefs in Brazil on Friday. Harris has never missed a game during his NFL career and is entering his first season with the Chargers. In other news, wide receiver Quentin Johnston has cleared concussion protocol and appears in line to play Friday.

(Pittsburgh, PA) — The Steelers are taking care of their new starting running back ahead of the season opener. Jaylen Warren signed a two-year extension on Monday. ESPN reports the deal includes 12-million dollars in guaranteed money. Warren originally made Pittsburgh’s roster as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and rushed for more than 500 yards in 15 games as a backup last season.

(Miami, FL) — A superstar on the Dolphins is no longer a captain. Tyreek Hill was not voted as one of the team’s six captains on Monday. The electric receiver admitted that he probably wouldn’t retain the role after quitting on the Fins in last year’s season finale and requesting to play elsewhere. It’s the first time since joining Miami in 2022 that Hill was not named a captain.

(East Rutherford, NJ) — The Giants aren’t ready to reveal who their second string signal caller is. Head coach Brian Daboll refused to say whether rookie Jaxson Dart or veteran Jameis Winston will serve as New York’s primary backup quarterback for Sunday’s season opener at the Washington Commanders. Daboll said any decisions will be revealed on the day of the game. Russell Wilson has already been named the team’s starter.

(Undated) — The Athletics are regaining a crucial member of their starting rotation. The A’s have activated right-hander Luis Severino off the 15-day injured list. He is scheduled to start against the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. The 31-year-old signed a three-year, 67-million-dollar deal with the team in December to mark the largest deal in club history. He is 6-and-11 with a 4.82 ERA through 24 starts this season. The A’s also recalled infielder/outfielder Max Schuemann from Triple-A Las Vegas and selected right-hander Scott McGough from Triple-A. Right-hander Eduarniel Nunez was optioned to Las Vegas and left-hander Ben Bowden was transferred to the 60-day IL.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Braves are shaking up their infield. The team claimed Ha-Seong Kim [[ HA-song ]] off waivers from the Rays on Monday. The shortstop and second baseman is expected to join the team on Tuesday after recovering from a back injury. The 29-year-old is batting just .214 in 24 games this year and will make 16-million dollars next season.

(Tuscaloosa, AL) — The Crimson Tide could be without their top playmaker for the home opener. Alabama head football coach Kalen DeBoer said Monday that wide receiver Ryan Williams is considered “day to day” as he remains in concussion protocol. Williams was helped off the field during Alabama’s season opening loss at Florida State. Seminoles safety Earl Little was flagged for targeting after hitting Williams, but the penalty was overturned after review. The Tide host UL Monroe Saturday night.

Top-seeded Jannik Sinner put together a dominant performance to sweep his fourth round matchup against 23rd-seeded Alexander Bublik and advance to the next round. Eighth-seeded Alex De Minaur, 10th-seeded Lorenzo Musetti and 25th-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime also moved on following wins in straight sets.
