Illinois State Police (ISP) Troop 9 Commander, Captain Brian Wilson, announced that ISP will conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols this month in Clay, Effingham, Wayne, Edwards, and Hamilton counties.
The ACE patrols focus on preventing, detecting, and enforcing violations tied to impaired driving and illegal alcohol or drug use. Troopers on detail will be on the lookout for drivers showing signs of impairment, unsafe driving, transporting open alcohol, or driving with suspended or revoked licenses. They’ll also monitor for violations including seatbelt and child restraint misuse, distracted driving, and other traffic offenses.
According to ISP, alcohol and drug impairment contribute to more than 47% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois, with one alcohol-related traffic fatality occurring every 39 minutes nationwide.
“The ISP has zero tolerance for impaired driving in Illinois,” Wilson said. “These patrols allow our officers to work even harder to get dangerous DUI offenders off the road.”
The ACE patrols are funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
