On Tuesday around 10:30 p.m., deputies attempted to stop a motorcycle on County Highway 9 north of Sims. The driver refused to stop, and a short pursuit followed. The motorcycle eventually came to a stop, and deputies arrested 47-year-old Phillip E. Ray Jr. of Johnsonville.

A search revealed Ray was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. He was transported to the Wayne County Jail without incident. Ray faces charges of:

On Wednesday, deputies arrested 43-year-old Joanna L. Lane of Springerton on a Wayne County warrant charging her with fraud. The charge stems from an investigation into a fraudulently altered check.
