SHOOTING SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER I-57 INCIDENT

A Muncie, Indiana man has been arrested following a shooting incident on Interstate 57 in Jefferson County Friday morning.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call around 8:30 a.m. reporting that shots were fired at a vehicle from a maroon Toyota Sienna minivan near mile marker 91. The suspect vehicle was last seen heading east on I-64. Units from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Mt. Vernon Police and Illinois State Police responded to the area.
Deputies later located the minivan eastbound on I-64 in Wayne County and initiated a felony stop on Illinois Highway 242 just inside Hamilton County. With assistance from the other agencies, three individuals were detained.
The driver, 23-year-old Mason F. Prichard of Muncie, Indiana, was identified as the shooter. He was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for questioning.
Illinois State Police took over the investigation, with local deputies and detectives assisting. Authorities confirmed one vehicle was damaged by gunfire but no injuries were reported.
Prichard has been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle and is being held at the Jefferson County Jail in Mt. Vernon pending a pretrial detention hearing.
