The 42nd annual Wayne County Corn and Soybean Yield Tour will take place Monday, September 8th
Corn Growers President Gregg Barnard said the tour, first held in 1983 during a drought year, continues to provide valuable information to farmers and agribusiness leaders as they plan for harvest and marketing.
The lowest yields recorded in tour history came in 1983, with soybeans averaging 17.4 bushels per acre and corn at 34 bushels. In 2024, soybean yields averaged 49.6 bushels per acre on 170,900 acres, while corn came in at 181.9 bushels on 107,700 acres.
This year, eight teams will each travel assigned routes, checking at least 10 soybean and 10 corn fields for yield. Teams will depart JT’s in Wayne City at 7 a.m. and reconvene at the Wayne City Community Building at 11:30 to compile estimates.
The tour is sponsored by the Wayne County Corn Growers and University of Illinois Extension. FNB Community Bank will provide lunch for participants.
