SHERIFFS WARN OF DMV TEXT SCAM

By Mark Wells Sep 8, 2025 | 5:52 AM

The Illinois Sheriff’s Association and local sheriff’s departments are warning residents to be on alert for a fraudulent text message circulating in the region.

The bogus texts claim to be from the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles, alleging the recipient has unpaid traffic tickets and threatening suspension of their driver’s license or vehicle registration unless immediate payment is made.

Authorities stress the messages are a scam. Residents who receive them should ignore and delete the texts.
