ILLINOIS CROP PROGRESS: CORN AND SOYBEAN CONDITIONS REMAIN STABLE AMID DRY WEATHER

According to the USDA, as of Sunday, Illinois farmers have harvested 2% of their corn, with 53% rated in good to excellent condition. Notably, 27% of the corn crop has reached maturity, and 87% is dented. Meanwhile, 54% of the state’s soybeans are in good condition, with 36% having started dropping leaves.

The USDA’s report on Monday highlighted that there were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending August 7th. Precipitation averaged just 0.21 inches, which is 0.38 inches below normal levels. Topsoil moisture was rated 21% very short, 40% short, and 39% adequate, while subsoil moisture was 21% very short, 32% short, and 47% adequate.

Corn progress metrics showed corn dough at 98%, exceeding the 5-year average of 95%. Corn dented reached 87%, surpassing the 5-year average of 80%. Corn maturity was slightly below the 5-year average at 27% compared to 28%, and corn harvested was at 2%, slightly above the 5-year average of 1%. The condition of the corn crop was rated 8% very poor, 9% poor, 30% fair, 41% good, and 12% excellent.

For soybeans, 36% are dropping leaves, significantly higher than the 5-year average of 16%. Soybean condition was reported as 8% very poor, 12% poor, 26% fair, 43% good, and 11% excellent.

These figures highlight stable crop conditions despite ongoing dry weather challenges.
