Linda Lou (Bowers) Veatch, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Hoodville, IL on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Linda was the wife of Norman R. Veatch, the mother of Rebecca (Veatch) Karcher & husband Larry Karcher, and the grandmother of John Christopher Kramer.
She was the eldest of 7 children belonging to Charles “Chick” Bowers & Lula Mae (Abbott) Bowers. Her siblings are William Lee Bowers & wife Barbara (Rawls) Bowers, Paula S. (Bowers) Fraley, Mary (Bowers) Cannon & husband Bill Cannon, Jerry D. Bowers, Debra (Bowers) White & husband David White, and Mike “Smiley” Bowers. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her many caring friends & neighbors, all of whom she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Ray Veatch, her son Arnold Ray Veatch, and her parents Charles “Chick” Bowers & Lula Mae (Abbott) Bowers.
Linda attended the Springerton Community Church in Springerton, IL. She adored nature, loved gardening, and was certainly no stranger to hard work. Linda loved her life on Hoodville Hill, where her father had attended school as a child. She was close to her friends and neighbors and her mom was right across the field. She was a shining example to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed by all.
Funeral services for Linda Lou (Bowers) Veatch will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro with Bro. Bill Prince officiating. A private family viewing will be held prior to the public visitation. The public visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Gholson Funeral Home. Per Linda’s wishes, her body will be cremated following the services, and a private family interment of ashes will be held at a later date at Brush Harbor Cemetery in McLeansboro.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Linda’s honor may be made to the Hamilton County Senior Citizen Center, and will be accepted at Gholson Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
