By Mark Wells Sep 10, 2025 | 5:55 AM

At Monday night’s Grayville Council meeting, Treasurer Sharon Walden delivered a financial report, revealing over $3 million in restricted accounts and investments. However, the cash on hand for operations showed a temporary negative balance of $55,882. Walden reassured the council that this situation is temporary and will be resolved once the municipality’s tax deposit is made, with payroll also accounted for in the current figures.

Mayor Travis Thompson reported 250 service calls in August from the Police Department. In Chief Seigel’s absence, he also announced that Zach Coale, the newly hired fourth police officer, started on Monday. Coale, who graduated from the academy on Friday, will complete field training over the next month to six weeks.

During the meeting, the council:

Approved the final reading of the solicitors/peddlers ordinance.

Granted the Friends of Grayville permission to close streets for their annual car show on October 4th, from 6 AM to 4 PM.

Set Trick or Treat hours for Halloween night from 5 PM to 8 PM.

The council reviewed and approved bids for excess equipment:

Alex Youngblood won the bid for a bucket truck at $1,500.

Emergency Remarketing from Ohio acquired a Ford Explorer for $768.18.

Louis Evans purchased a SCAG mower for $550, but his bid on a Ford Utility truck was topped by the Little Wabash Fire Protection District, who secured it for $2,000.

Grayville leaders also approved demolition quotes for city-owned properties, with costs of $9,800 for 117 East Martin and $6,350 for 611 Water Street, pending final paperwork.

Finally, the council agreed to rent a Hydromax Vac Truck for sewer work at $5,000 per day, expected to be used for two days.
