Darren Bailey is seeking a rematch with Governor Pritzker. The former Republic State Senator, farmer and Clay County resident is reportedly planning to run for governor of Illinois again next year. Cook County Republican Party Chairman Aaron Del Mar said he has agreed to be his running mate. A formal campaign announcement is expected later this month. Bailey lost to Pritzker in the governor’s race in 2022. Bailey would likely be the fourth person to announce plans to challenge Pritzker in 2026.

Governor JB Pritzker is confirming federal immigration agents are in Chicago. Pritzker says about two-hundred ICE agents with access to one-hundred vehicles are expected to be on the ground in the city. The governor said people are afraid to come out of their homes to go shopping and take their children to school. Pritzker’s comments come after the Department of Homeland Security announced it was launching an immigration crackdown this week in Chicago and across Illinois.

Justice P. Scott Neville, Junior will be the next Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court. Neville was selected by the state’s high court, making him the second Black Chief Justice in Illinois history. His three-year term begins on October 26th, and he will be succeeding Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis, who has led the Court since 2022. An installation ceremony will be held October 24th in Chicago.
