Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, has announced the recall of over 91,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee hybrids in the United States. The recall affects models from 2022 to 2026 due to a software malfunction.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the issue involves the battery pack control module microprocessor, which may become overloaded and reset. This malfunction can cause the hybrid control processor to misinterpret signals, potentially leading to a sudden loss of drive power.
The NHTSA has highlighted the risk of unexpected propulsion loss, which could result in a crash without prior warning. Despite the large number of vehicles recalled, it is estimated that only about one percent may actually be affected by the defect.
Owners of these vehicles are advised to contact their local Jeep dealerships to determine if their vehicle is impacted and to arrange for necessary repairs or software updates.
