DRY CONDITIONS PERSIST ACROSS SOUTHERN ILLINOIS

Abnormally dry conditions continue to affect all of Southern Illinois, with no significant rainfall expected for at least a week. Wayne County experienced its 7th driest August in 131 years, with rainfall 2.48 inches below normal, according to USDA officials.

Edwards County: Recorded its 14th driest August, with rainfall 2.1 inches below normal.
White County: Experienced its 12th driest August, with 2.29 inches below normal rainfall.
Hamilton County: Marked its 5th driest August, with 2.78 inches below normal rainfall.

Some burn bans in the area are currently in effect, fire department officials are urging residents to exercise extreme caution with any open burning.
