FCHS MULES FOOTBALL

On Friday night the 2-0 Fairfield Mules traveled to Eldorado for a tough matchup with the 1-1 Eldorado Eagles. Despite a late push by the Eagles, the Mules were able to hold them off with a final score of 24-12.

The game was a fairly defensive-minded contest with scoring limited to the 1st and 4th Quarters. However, it did feature another stellar offensive performance from Fairfield’s Michael Barner who finished with 14 rushes for 196 yards and 2 Touchdowns. Barner’s offensive fireworks featured a highlight reel worthy 83-yard rushing touchdown with 2 ½ minutes left in the 1st quarter plus a 27-yard touchdown run earlier in the quarter. Fairfield’s Cooper Berg also tacked on a touchdown late in the game. Fairfield’s defense was once again led by Austin Grieve who had 7 tackles, including 2 tackles-for-a-loss and 1 pass defense. Grieve also led FCHS’s special teams performance with 113 total return yards including an impressive 61-yard kickoff return in the 4th Quarter.

The now 3-0 Fairfield Mules will return to the Trainyard next weekend for an always tough matchup with the 1-3 Sesser-Valier/Waltonville Red Devils
