Cincinnati Reds 11, St. Louis Cardinals 6          The Cardinals bullpen collapsed in the final three innings of an 11-6 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Busch Stadium. The Cardinals led by a run entering the top of the seventh before giving up eight runs the rest of the way. Alec Burleson drove in a pair of runs in the losing effort, while Ryan Fernandez was charged with his fourth loss in relief. St. Louis has dropped six of seven. The Cardinals look to even up their series against the Cincinnati Reds when the two teams meet at Busch Stadium this afternoon. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central with a 73-and-78 record. Andre Pallante starts for St. Louis in today’s game. First pitch is at 12:15PM.

Chicago Cubs 4, Pittsburgh Pirates 0              The Cubs shut out the Pirates 4-0 in their series opener from Pittsburgh. Jameson Taillon gave up just two hits over six innings to earn the win. Pete Crow-Armstrong and Michael Bush each went deep as Chicago holds a four-game lead over the Padres for the top NL Wild Card spot with an 86-and-64 record. The Northsiders send Cade Horton to the mound against Pittsburgh tonight.

(Undated) — Week Two of the NFL season is officially in the books. The Buccaneers rallied for a 20-19 win over the Texans while the Chargers made easy work of the Raiders 20-9 in a Monday Night Football doubleheader. Teams are now preparing for Week Three, which kicks off with an AFC East showdown on Thursday Night Football. The Dolphins clash with the Bills from Orchard Park.

(Undated) — The Commanders could be without their star quarterback. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels suffered a knee injury during last Thursday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers and his status for Sunday’s matchup with the Raiders is up in the air, coach Dan Quinn said Monday. Daniels has thrown for 433 yards and three touchdowns this season, while rushing for 85 more yards.

(Eagan, MN) — JJ McCarthy has suffered another injury. The Vikings quarterback sprained his ankle during Sunday’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons, and he is expected to miss Minnesota’s Week Three game against the Bengals. ESPN is reporting that McCarthy could miss two-to-four weeks with the setback. McCarthy missed all of the 2024 season after tearing his meniscus in a preseason game. Carson Wentz will start under center in McCarthy’s absence.

(Cincinnati, OH) — One of the best quarterbacks in the NFL is out for most of the season. ESPN reports Bengals’ gunslinger Joe Burrow will miss a “minimum” of three months with a foot injury. Head coach Zac Taylor told the media on Monday the 28-year-old will undergo surgery for turf toe. Burrow got hurt during Sunday’s game against the Jaguars when he got sacked in the second quarter.

(Charlotte, NC) — The Panthers’ offensive line is banged up just two weeks into the season. Carolina is placing guard Robert Hunt and center Austin Corbett on injured reserve. Head coach Dave Canales said Hunt will undergo surgery on his left biceps and Corbett is dealing with a Grade Three MCL injury to his left knee. Hunt could miss the remainder of the season and Corbett is expected to miss at least six weeks. The Panthers host the Falcons on Sunday.

(Undated) — The Rams will be without a key defender for an extended period of time. The team placed cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon on injured reserve with a broken clavicle he suffered in Sunday’s win over the Titans. Los Angeles coach Sean McVay told reporters that he doesn’t believe Witherspoon will need surgery, but he will be out for around 12 weeks. Witherspoon has three tackles in two games this season.

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Phillies are NL East Division champions for the second straight year. The Phils edged the Dodgers 6-5 in 10 innings in Los Angeles to clinch the division crown. J.T. Realmuto plated the go-ahead run on a sac-fly in the 10th for Philadelphia, which has won seven of its last eight. Kyle Schwarber smacked his 53rd homer of the season. Angel Pages drilled a game-tying solo homer in the ninth for the Dodgers, who are now just two games ahead of the idle Padres for first place in the NL West.

>>LSU Coach Issues Apology To Reporter

(Baton Rouge, LA) — LSU head football coach Brian Kelly is sorry for some recent comments. Kelly said during Monday’s news conference that he apologized to the reporter he snapped at following the Tigers’ win over Florida. He took responsibility for how he handled the reporter’s question about LSU’s offense, and said that he’ll be better in the future. The Tigers are 3-and-0 and host Southeastern Louisiana Saturday night.

>>Report: Hawks Trade Kobe Bufkin To Nets

(Undated) — The Hawks and Nets have agreed to a deal. According to ESPN, Atlanta is trading guard Kobe Bufkin to Brooklyn for cash considerations. The Hawks selected Bufkin with the 15th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. He is due over five-million-dollars this season and has a nearly seven-million-dollar team option for next year. Atlanta is also receiving a trade exception in the deal.
