Wabash Area Development, Inc. (WADI), administrator of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) in Edwards, Gallatin, Hamilton, Saline, Wabash, Wayne, and White counties, has announced that funding is available to help income-eligible households with natural gas, propane, electric bills, and furnace repairs for inoperable heating systems.
Applications open October 1st for priority groups: adults 60 and older, individuals with a disability, families with children under 6, and households that are disconnected, have a disconnection notice, or less than 25% propane supply. All other eligible households may apply starting November 1st
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through August 15, 2026, or until funds run out. Households may return later in the program year for Reconnection Assistance or Furnace Assistance, if needed.
This year, eligibility has expanded to households at or below 60% of the state median income. Monthly income limits include: 1-person household – $3,332; 2-person – $4,357; 3-person – $5,382; 4-person – $6,407. For larger households, visit www.wadi-inc.com or liheapillinois.com.
Applicants must provide proof of income for the prior 30 days, Social Security numbers (or ITINs), current heat and electric bills, and, for renters, a lease showing heating costs included in rent. Additional documentation may be required.
