Two suspects—a 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old juvenile—are in custody following a series of investigations by the Mt. Vernon Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, authorities announced Wednesday. On Tuesday evening, police made contact with Brian E. Needy, 19, and a 15-year-old male juvenile in the 2700 block of Logan Street. Needy was detained in connection with an ongoing Sheriff’s Office investigation, while the juvenile was wanted on a DCFS warrant. A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Detective responded to the scene and took Needy into custody on charges of residential burglary. He was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for incarceration and is currently awaiting a pretrial detention hearing.

The 15-year-old juvenile, after being processed by Mt. Vernon Police on the warrant, was also arrested for residential burglary in the same case as Needy, which involved the theft of a firearm. The charges stem from a burglary reported earlier that day in the 21000 block of North George Lane in Dix, Illinois.
In addition to the burglary charges, the juvenile faces multiple traffic offenses related to a single-vehicle crash that occurred on September 13 at the intersection of East Liberty Road and North Dartmouth Lane. The juvenile, identified as the alleged driver, is accused of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, aggravated reckless driving, illegal transportation of alcohol, speeding, improper lane usage, and driving without a valid license. The crash resulted in injuries to five juvenile passengers, some of whom required serious medical attention. Authorities say the juvenile fled the scene following the incident. The juvenile has been transported to a juvenile detention center in Winnebago County, where he awaits his first hearing.

Both suspects remain in custody as the investigations continue.
