The McLeansboro City Council met Tuesday night for just over an hour for its monthly meeting, covering a wide range of city business.
The Consent Agenda was approved, which included setting Trick-or-Treat hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 31st. City-Wide Clean-Up will be held Wednesday, October 8th through Friday, October 10th from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and on Saturday, October 11th from 7:45 a.m. to noon. The city also approved TIF reimbursements of $6,041.36 to JASVI, Inc., $1,340.64 to Jerrod and Lois Vaupel, and $431.67 to LexiLane, LLC.
D.K. York was sworn in as a McLeansboro Police Officer by Mayor Chad May. The board also accepted a $1,000 donation to the city waste site from a local tree service.
The City Pool reported nearly $38,000 in expenses this year, operating at a loss of about $21,700.
Other approvals included:
Expense voucher for a police conference in Indianapolis.
Changes to SR2 zoning, allowing certain mobile and modular homes within 50 feet of zone MR1.
Appointment of Billee Olberding to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Acceptance of a row crop farm lease from Daniel Webb, with plans to open it up for bids.
Transfer of a lakeshore lease for property at 1409 West Randolph Street to Vickie Hughes.
Updates to the raffle license application.
An ordinance creating an electric savings fund for the light plant.
Approval of a new Class E2 liquor license, amending Article 21 of the City Code.
The Kiwanis Club thanked the council for its help with the Fall Festival, noting it was a success, and announced plans to put up a new shelter at the ball field when weather permits. Mayor May commended the group for their continued efforts.
The most debated issue of the evening concerned speeding complaints on Sunset Drive and Alan Drive. Council members discussed the merits of installing speed bumps versus radar speed signs. Police Chief Nathan Taylor recommended radar speed signs, saying they are more effective in encouraging drivers to slow down.
After a 15-minute discussion, the council voted 4-2 to install three speed bumps on Sunset Drive and two on Alan Drive, with the option to remove them later if deemed ineffective.
