On Tuesday, the FCHS Girls Tennis Team faced off against Newton. The Lady Mules picked up Singles wins from Marlee Richards and Kenry Hutchcraft but eventually fell to Newton 7-2
HIGH SCHOOL GOLF FROM WEDNESDAY:
On Wednesday, the FCHS Golf Team traveled to Carmi for a 4-way meet with Carmi, Cisne, and Gallatin County. In Boys action, Carmi finished 1st with a team score of 160 with Fairfield finishing 3rd with a score of 193. Carmi’s Maxon O’Daniel was the medalist, shooting a 36 with Cisne’s Hagen Howard finishing 2nd with a 37. The Mules were led by River Wise who placed 8th with a 46.
On the Girls side, Fairfield finished 1st with a team score of 213. Carmi’s Katelyn Davis was the medalist with a 48. The Lady Mules were led by Eden Duckworth who finished 2nd with a 49. She was joined in the top 5 by Lela Duckworth-3rd, Carly Colclasure-4th, and Amelia Hopfinger-5th.

JR HIGH CROSS COUNTRY:
The Fairfield Colts Cross Country Team participated at the Salem Invitational on Wednesday. In JV Boys action, Fairfield’s Clay Hopper earned medalist honors placing 19th out of 133 runners. On the JV Girls side, Fairfield’s Addison Lawyer-17th, and Chloe Esmon-19th also earned medalist honors in a field of 121 runners.

On Wednesday night, the Frontier Bobcats Volleyball Team fell to Southwestern Illinois College in 4 sets, 20-25, 20-25, 25-20, & 18-25. The Bobcats record drops to 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference

Cincinnati Reds 6, St. Louis Cardinals 2 The St. Louis Cardinals dropped the rubber match of their series against the Cincinnati Reds 6-2 at Busch Stadium. St. Louis surrendered three runs in the top of the fourth and trailed the rest of the way. Alec Burleson launched his 18th home run of the season in the losing effort, while Andre Pallante was charged with his 15th loss after allowing four runs on six hits in five innings. The Cardinals are in fourth place in the NL Central at 74-and-79. They host Milwaukee tomorrow night. In other team news, the Cardinals shut down first baseman Willson Contreras for the rest of the season due to a biceps injury.
Chicago Cubs 8, Pittsburgh Pirates 4 The Cubs clinched a playoff berth after taking down the Pirates 8-4 and earning a sweep from Pittsburgh. Michael Busch lifted a sacrifice fly to take the lead as part of a three-run sixth inning. Aaron Civale earned his fourth win in relief. Chicago is back in the postseason for the first time since 2020. The 88-and-64 Northsiders visit the Reds tonight.

The St. Louis Blues are rewarding one of their forwards with a bump in pay. The team signed Nathan Walker to a two-year extension worth 1.775 million dollars yesterday. Walker has been with the Blues since the 2019-20 season. He had eight goals and eight assists in 73 games last year.
The Blackhawks are bringing back one of their defensemen. The Hawks inked blue-liner Wyatt Kaiser to a two-year deal worth one-point-seven million dollars yesterday. Kaiser has spent the last three seasons with Chicago. He had four goals and four assists in 57 games last year.
NFL NEWS:
The Bears are dealing with a number of injuries. Five players missed practice yesterday, including cornerback Jaylon Jones and defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. D’Andre Swift was one of four Bears players who were limited participants in practice. The Bears host the Cowboys on Sunday.

(Ashburn, VA) — The Commanders will officially return to The District. The District of Columbia Council approved the RFK Stadium Project by a vote of 11-2 on Wednesday, clearing the way for Washington to return to the site of its former home. RFK Stadium, where the club played from 1961 to 1996, still stands on the site where the new structure will be erected. The target date for stadium completion is 2030.

(Cincinnati, OH) — The Bengals are leaving the door open for their star quarterback to suit up again this season. That’s according to head coach Zac Taylor, who told the media on Wednesday that Joe Burrow is out “at least” the next four weeks after officially landing on injured reserve. The 28-year-old is dealing with turf toe and is expected to miss three months. Taylor didn’t give a timetable for his return.

Darell Hernaiz led the way at the plate for the A’s after going one for four with three runs batted in. The Athletics have already been eliminated from the postseason.

(Undated) — Another big change is coming to college football. The NCAA announced Wednesday that college football is officially moving to a single offseason transfer portal window. The Division One Administrative Committee voted to approve a legislative change that eliminates the spring transfer window. They were unable to decide when the lone portal window for FBS and FCS players will be. Adjustments will be considered when the committee meets in October.

(Sunrise, FL) — The Panthers are expecting one of their star players to return around Christmas. General manager Bill Zito told the media on Wednesday that Matthew Tkachuk [[ KUH-chuhk ]] will be out until December. The forward is recovering from a sports hernia and a torn adductor muscle he suffered last season. Tkachuk returned for the playoffs to help the team win a Stanley Cup.

Only a “few” details remain as both parties are in the final stages of the negotiation process. Messi joined Miami in the summer of 2023 and the 38-year-old has almost 30 goals across all competitions this season.
