Mildred Iladene Masterson, 91, of Fairfield, Illinois, peacefully passed away at her home on September 18, 2025. Mildred was born on October 28, 1933, in Overton County, Allons, Tennessee to Sarah Berniece and Jessie Garvin Savage.
She married Lewis Eugene (Gene) Masterson on September 14, 1952. He preceded her in death on May 31, 2001. They were blessed with 49 years of marriage. To the union were born two children, Marcia Masterson Hall of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, and Glenn Masterson of Edwardsville, Illinois.
Mildred worked several jobs during her lifetime. She was employed by Farmer’s Store Grocery, Goodman Oil Company, Farmer’s Clothing Store, and North Side Baptist Church.
Her favorite job was that of Grandma and Great Grandma. Family was very precious and special to her. She loved making patchwork quilts; each of her children and grandchildren were given quilts made by her.
She and Gene were members of North Side Baptist Church where she taught Vacation Bible School and the 4 & 5 year old Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; parents, Garvin & Berniece Savage; and infant brother Jesse Gifford Savage.
Surviving are her sister, Margaret Henson of Chicago; daughter, Marcia Hall of Mt. Carmel; son, Glenn (special family member, Janet Kuhl) of Edwardsville; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Bullen, Jason Hall, Grant Masterson, Matthew Masterson, Morgan (Doug) Wulsin and Dalton (Michalie) Masterson; and 4 great grandchildren, McKenna Bullen, Emma, Claire, and Audrey Wulsin and one more great grandbaby due in January 2026.
Funeral services for Mildred Masterson will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025, at North Side Baptist Church in Fairfield, Illinois, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Officiating will be Bro. Jim Minnick and Mildred’s nephew, Steve Moore. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
