HIGH SCHOOL TENNIS FROM WEDNESDAY
On Wednesday, the Fairfield Lady Mules Tennis Team lost a close matchup with Richland County 5-4. The Lady Mules picked up Singles wins from Wren Braddock and Kenry Hutchcraft. In Doubles action, the Lady Mules got victories from the team of Kenry Hutchcraft and Marlee Richards and from the team of Carly Fleener and Malia Austin.

HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL FROM THURSDAY
The Fairfield Lady Mules Volleyball Team was in action Thursday night against Flora at the Mule Barn. In Varsity action, the Lady Mules barreled by Flora in 2 sets, 25-10 & 25-12. On the JV side, FCHS also powered past Flora in 2 sets, 25-7 & 25-10. Frosh action saw Fairfield over Flora in 2 sets, 25-13, 25-16.

The St. Louis Cardinals will try to get back in the win column when they host the Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium tonight. The Cardinals just dropped two of three against the Reds earlier in the week. St. Louis is in fourth place in the NL Central at 74-and-79. Sonny Gray starts for the Cardinals tonight. First pitch is at 7:15PM.

Cincinnati Reds 1, Chicago Cubs 0              The Cubs couldn’t handle Hunter Greene during a 1-0 loss to the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park. The Northsiders had just one hit off of Greene in his complete game shutout. Colin Rea was charged with his seventh loss despite striking out 11 and holding the Reds to one run on four hits in seven frames. The Cubs fell to 88-and-65. They send Shota Imanaga to the mound against the Reds tonight.

(Bloomington, IN) — The number-nine Illinois Fighting Illini open up Big Ten play with a game against number-17 Indiana at Memorial Stadium tomorrow night. The Illini are off to a 3-and-0 start this season after shutting out Western Michigan 38-0 last weekend. Illinois has dropped four of its last five against Indiana. Tomorrow’s game kicks off at 6:30PM and can be heard WFIW-AM 1390 on the Illini Sports Radio Network powered by Learfield with the pregame show at 5:30PM.

(Chicago, IL) — The Bears go for their first win of the season when they host the Dallas Cowboys at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon. The Bears are off to an 0-and-2 start after getting crushed by the Detroit Lions 52-21 last Sunday. Ben Johnson is still searching for his first NFL victory. Sunday’s game kicks off at 3:25PM.

Ward denied the allegations, with his defense arguing that there was insufficient credible evidence. He now faces a civil lawsuit in Harris County seeking over 20-million-dollars for multiple alleged instances of physical and sexual abuse. The 34-year-old remains on the NFL’s commissioner-exempt list, barring him from playing or practicing while the league continues its own investigation.

Verlander will be 43-years-old at the start of next season and currently ranks 34th on the all-time wins list with 265. He is 3-and-10 with a 3.75 ERA through 27 starts this season.

(Undated) – Week four of the college football season is underway. Rice beat Charlotte 28-17 in the only game on Thursday night. On Friday, Oklahoma State will host Tulsa and Rutgers will host Iowa. Premier matchups on Saturday include number 18 Utah hosting number 16 Texas Tech, number 12 Oklahoma will host number 25 Auburn, sixth-ranked Miami will host Florida.

(Miami, FL) — Miami football is receiving a big donation to create statues of former icons. The school announced on Thursday that Max Chira made a “significant donation” to the Victory Fund, which helps support student athletes. Part of the nearly two-million-dollar pledge will go to building life-size statues of former Heisman Trophy winners Vinny Testaverde and Gino Torretta.

(Undated) — The Kansas Jayhawks and Arizona State Sun Devils may be heading across the pond early in the 2026 college football season. ESPN reports that Kansas and Arizona State are in discussions about moving next season’s matchup to London’s Wembley Stadium. The game is tentatively scheduled for September 19th, 2026. It will require Kansas to have a waiver to move their previously scheduled game against Middle Tennessee from September 19th to Week Zero next season before the game may be moved to England. It would be the second college football game played in the United Kingdom and first since 1988.

(Undated) — The puck drops on the NHL preseason this weekend. The Dallas Stars are hosting the St. Louis Blues Saturday night. The Stars are coming off a second place finish in the Central Division and made it all the way to the Western Conference Final. The Blues made the postseason after choosing to hire head coach Jim Montgomery in November. 15 more exhibition games are on the slate for Sunday including the Empire Classic between the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks, and the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers visiting the Nashville Predators.

>>Ovechkin Leaves First Training Camp Practice With Injury

(Arlington, VA) — The Washington Capitals could be without their star. Caps forward Alexander Ovechkin left the team’s first practice of training camp with a lower-body injury. The 40-year-old told reporters after the session that he is unsure if he will miss time due to the injury. He added that he is still undecided as to whether this upcoming season will be his last in the NHL. Ovechkin set the all-time goal record last season.

>>NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Resume Sunday

(Loudon, NH) — The next stage in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs is here. The field battles in the Round of 12 from New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the Mobil 1 301 on Sunday. Denny Hamlin, William Byron, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and Ryan Blaney make up the top-five. Austin Cindric, Joey Logano, Ross Chastain and Tyler Reddick are starting the three-race round on the bubble.
