The Fairfield Community High School (FCHS) Board met Monday night opening the evening with its annual budget hearing. With no public comments submitted, the Board quickly moved through its agenda, approving both the consent agenda and several key items shaping the upcoming school year.
During the student spotlight, members of the FCHS Sports Officiating Class addressed the Board. Students shared their progress toward obtaining Illinois High School Association (IHSA) officiating licenses in a variety of sports, including football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, cross country, and track & field.
Superintendent, Bobby Wells provided an update on several initiatives, most notably the launch of a new monthly “Speaker Series.” Designed to strengthen connections with parents, students, and the broader community, the series will cover topics ranging from youth development and curriculum to the physical school building. Dates and specific topics will be announced in the coming weeks, with the inaugural event scheduled for October. Community participation is highly encouraged.
In old business, the Board approved the Fiscal Year 2026 budget and accepted the official sale of a school bus. Under new business, several significant items received approval:
Purchase of the Securely Online Safety System
Posting of the salary and compensation report
Acceptance of a $60,000 grant for curriculum development with Acellus, supporting special education and targeted assistance programs, as well as purchasing additional program components
Approval to apply for a $50,000 maintenance grant from the State of Illinois
Purchase of a new 2025 71-passenger bus on a five-year lease
