The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that bridge deck repairs and a new concrete deck overlay project on Illinois 130 over Long Branch at County Road 1600 N, about 3 miles north of Olney, will move to the second stage of construction today. The bridge improvements are expected to be completed by mid-October.

Work will begin on the southbound lane, with traffic shifted to the northbound lane. The west leg of 1600 N, also known as Mount Gilead Road, will be closed. One lane of traffic will remain open at all times. Signals and signs will help guide motorists through the construction zone.

The project will extend the life of the bridge and provide a smoother driving surface. It is part of the ongoing resurfacing work from Olney to the Jasper County line.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for travel through the area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changing conditions and signage in the work zones, obey posted speed limits, avoid using mobile devices, and remain alert for workers and equipment.
