Illinois State Police Troop 9 Commander, Captain Brian Wilson, has announced that ISP will conduct Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement (ACE) patrols and Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols (OREP) throughout the region in October.
ACE patrols will take place in Clay, Marion, Jasper, Hamilton, and Lawrence counties, focusing on preventing, detecting, and enforcing violations tied to impaired driving and illegal alcohol or drug transportation. OREPs will be conducted in Clay, Effingham, Marion, Fayette, and White counties, with officers ensuring compliance with safety belt and child safety seat laws. Illinois law requires all passengers to be properly restrained.
State police emphasize zero tolerance for impaired driving. Troopers will be on the lookout for unsafe driving, suspended or revoked licenses, open alcohol containers, distracted driving, and other violations of the Illinois Vehicle Code.
According to ISP, alcohol and drug impairment contribute to more than 47% of all fatal crashes in Illinois, and nationally, one alcohol-related death occurs every 39 minutes. These targeted patrols, funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation, are designed to save lives by keeping impaired and unsafe drivers off the road.
