A West Salem, Illinois man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 41 South near Schenk Drive in Knox County Indiana.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched at approximately 12:14 p.m. to the accident involving a semi-truck and trailer loaded with coal. The truck, traveling southbound, crossed the median and both northbound lanes of U.S. 41 before striking an embankment and overturning in a nearby cornfield.
Preliminary findings suggest the 48-year-old driver may have suffered a medical issue prior to the crash. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.
