The Village of West Salem Board met Monday, September 22nd covering topics ranging from the closure of the West Salem Senior Center to community events planned this fall.
The Edwards County Council on Aging confirmed the West Salem Senior Center closed September 30th after approval by the Southeastern Illinois Agency on Aging and the Illinois Department of Aging. The Albion Senior Center will remain open.
Mayor Jeff Bradham thanked volunteers for their work on the new “Welcome to West Salem” sign, with a dedication planned for October. Bulk trash pickup is scheduled for October 16th, with guidelines requiring plastic bags and wrapped mattresses.
Halloween festivities will include a Costume Contest and Trunk-or-Treat on October 31st from 5–8 p.m. on the Village Square. Trick-or-treating will take place from 4–8 p.m. the same evening. Residents who wish to hand out treats may turn on their front porch light to indicate that they welcome trick-or-treaters.
Other business included reviewing insurance proposals, adopting an ordinance authorizing bonds for a new fire truck expected in January, and approving Treasurer Ameilia Quillen’s attendance at a training institute as she works toward certification.
