The Volleyball Cardinals of NCOE made a clean sweep at the Lady Cat Invitational at Marion Saturday, winning the Championship. In the final match, NCOE beat the host Marion Wildcats in straight sets by a score of 25-16, 25-10.
The Lady Cardinals are now 20-1 on the season.

Illini Beat Purdue
(West Lafayette, IN) — The number-17 Illinois Fighting Illini had a big second quarter during a 43-27 win over the Purdue Boilermakers at Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday. The Illini trailed 7-0 after one quarter before scoring 27 points in the second half. Illinois led by multiple possessions throughout the second half. Luke Altmyer passed for 390 yards and a touchdown, while Hank Beatty caught five passes for 186 yards and a score. Illinois improved to 2-and-1 in Big Ten play and 5-and-1 overall. The Illini host number-one Ohio State this Saturday.

(Indianapolis, IN) — Former NFL quarterback and Fox Sports analyst Mark Sanchez is out of the hospital after a stabbing Saturday in downtown Indianapolis. Police say Sanchez was stabbed during a physical altercation with another man. He was arrested at the hospital on charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication. He was in Indianapolis to cover Sunday’s Colts and Raiders game. TMZ says Sanchez has been released, and is now being processed through the jail, though his cash bond has already been paid.

(Tampa, FL) — The Buccaneers are getting more bad news on an impact player. ESPN reports Bucky Irving is also dealing with a shoulder injury along with his foot sprain. The running back is expected to miss at least two weeks. Head coach Todd Bowles told the media that Irving’s foot injury is different from the one he suffered last season. The 23-year-old has more than 400 total yards this year.

The week was marked by a pair of upsets, as UCLA took down formerly number six Penn State 42-37 at the Rose Bowl and Florida topped seventh-ranked Texas 29-21 in the Swamp. In other top 25 action, third-ranked Miami held on to beat number 19 Florida State 28-22 on the road, number 11 Alabama beat 17th-ranked Vanderbilt 30-14 at home and Cincinnati secured a home upset victory over number 12 Iowa State 38-30. The Nittany Lions plummeted down to 22nd in the rankings, while the Longhorns fell 12 spots to 19th.

(Undated) — The top five teams in the latest college football coaches poll remain the same. Ohio State is once again leading the nation followed by Oregon, Miami, Ole Miss and Texas A and M. Alabama climbed three spots to number eight and Texas Tech rose four spots to round out the top 10. Penn State dropped 16 spots and is now ranked 22nd. Virginia is 24th and Memphis is 25th after not being included in last week’s poll. Florida State and Utah are the two schools that dropped out of the top 25.

(Undated) — The MLB playoffs continued with a couple of Game Twos in the ALDS on Sunday. The Blue Jays blew out the Yankees 13-7 for their second straight victory in Toronto, and the Mariners evened their best-of-five series against the Tigers with a 3-2 win from Seattle. The ALDS will shift to Detroit and New York for Game Three on Tuesday. The postseason continues on Monday with the Phillies hosting the Dodgers and the Brewers hosting the Cubs in Game Two of the NLDS. Los Angeles and Milwaukee are leading each series 1-0.

(Atlanta, GA) — The Braves are taking a methodical approach in finding a new manager. General manager Alex Anthopoulos told the media on Saturday that no interviews have been conducted for the team’s vacant position. He said a list hasn’t been compiled yet, but the plan is to move quickly to find a replacement for Brian Snitker. The 69-year-old announced last week that he wasn’t coming back after spending 10 years at the helm.

(Concord, NC) — Shane van Gisbergen smoked the competition to take home the checkered flag in the Bank of America Roval 400 from Charlotte Motor Speedway. The driver of the Number-88 car led Kyle Larson by more than 15 seconds in the final race of the Round of 12. Ross Chastain, Bubba Wallace, Tyler Reddick and Austin Cindric were eliminated from postseason contention as the Cup Series moves into the Round of Eight next Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
