Jim (J.B.) Fletcher, a former member of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, announced Monday that he will seek the Republican nomination for Sheriff of Wayne County.
Fletcher, who served with the department from 1990 to 2006, stated, “I intend to wage war against drugs and the ancillary crimes that always accompany them in this county, just as we did a couple of decades ago.” He will be running against the current Wayne County Sheriff, Chris Otey, in the March primary next year.
Emphasizing his commitment to the community, Fletcher said, “I intend to have a sheriff’s office that is responsive and where everyone is welcome. No matter who you are or where you come from, you will be treated with dignity and respect.”
Fletcher brings a wealth of experience to his candidacy, having held every position in the sheriff’s department except for the elected office of sheriff. He has worked under five sheriffs and describes his record as “absolutely spotless.” His roles have included correctional officer, deputy sheriff, court security officer, DARE officer, juvenile officer, drug task force officer, Chief Deputy, and Detective.
Fletcher’s wife, Georgiana is the Wayne County Circuit Clerk.
