The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office has announced that the Mount Carmel DMV will close permanently on Friday, November 14th after officials were unable to reach an agreement with the landlord of the facility located at 219 W. Second Street.
According to the Secretary of State, the Mount Carmel location ranks among the lowest in transactions statewide, averaging only 15 driver’s licenses issued or renewed per day out of the 122 DMV offices in Illinois.
Residents can still access DMV services at nearby facilities in Lawrenceville, Fairfield, Carmi, and Olney.
The facility’s five employees will be transferred to other nearby locations, ensuring continued service coverage in the region.
