Customers in east Carmi who lost natural gas service Monday evening have had their service restored, according to Kevin Bratcher, Supervisor with Consumers Gas in Carmi. Approximately 47 structures were affected after a gas line crossing the river broke at a weld, prompting the shutdown.
Service was restored around 9 p.m. Monday, and crews continued working Tuesday morning to ensure all customers were back online and pilots were relit. Bratcher said officials are still working to diagnose the problem and will make a permanent repair at the break site along the river.
