COOLER TEMPERATURES AND POSSIBLE FROST AHEAD BEFORE WEEKEND WARM-UP

The National Weather Service in Paducah says Southern Illinois is in for a noticeable shift in weather as high pressure settles over the region, bringing clear skies and cooler air following the recent cold front.

Expect pleasant conditions today and tomorrow, with sunshine, light northeast winds, and highs in the lower to mid-70s.

The big story comes tonight into Friday morning, when temperatures are expected to dip into the upper 30s. With clear skies and calm winds, patchy frost is possible — gardeners may want to take precautions to protect sensitive plants.

Fortunately, the chill won’t last long. A warming trend begins this weekend, with highs returning to the mid to upper 70s by Saturday and climbing into the 80s by Sunday and next week. The good news: dry weather is expected to hold steady through the entire 7-day forecast, making it ideal for outdoor plans.
