Two people were injured Thursday morning after a train derailment near the Big Four Bridge in Gibson County Indiana, southwest of the Duke Energy Gibson County Plant along the Wabash River.
Authorities say the derailment occurred around 2:15 a.m. and involved a 100-car coal train. Officials say the train crew, consisting of a conductor and an engineer, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A source told WFIW that many of the coal trains in that area originate from the Maud Strip Mine west of Mt. Carmel.
The cause of the derailment remains under investigation.
