Fairfield Memorial Hospital proudly announces the appointment of Dawn Murbarger, BSN, RN, EMT-P, LI, CEN, as the new Director of the Emergency Department. Murbarger brings over 23 years of progressive experience in emergency and inpatient care, infection prevention, clinical education, and emergency preparedness to her leadership role.
Since joining Fairfield Memorial Hospital in 2018, Murbarger has served in key positions, most recently as Clinical Educator and Infection Preventionist. In these roles, she demonstrated outstanding leadership by overseeing system-wide clinical education, annual competencies, employee health initiatives, and American Heart Association (AHA) coordination. She has also served as Co-Chair of the Disaster Committee and led the hospital’s vascular access service, performing and precepting PICC and midline insertions, as well as ultrasound-guided IV placements.
Her expertise extends into the broader community, having served as a Licensed EMS Lead Instructor providing continuing education for EMS providers throughout Southern Illinois. Murbarger has also contributed to numerous regional and state committees dedicated to emergency preparedness, nursing education, and community health.
A respected nurse leader and mentor, Murbarger is known for her integrity, commitment to patient and staff safety, and her ability to foster collaboration across departments. Her leadership has played a key role in enhancing staff engagement, maintaining regulatory readiness, and improving patient experience metrics.

Murbarger holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Olney Central College. She has also completed extensive coursework in EMS, emergency medicine, and business administration.
