A metro east resident has announced her candidacy for Illinois’ 12th Congressional District. Julie Fortier says she is committed to bringing integrity, transparency, and steadfast advocacy to the people of Southern Illinois.
“I am running because I believe in the promise of Southern Illinois and the strength of our community to shape our own future. Now more than ever, we need leaders who listen, learn, and lead with compassion and courage. My campaign is about putting people first, amplifying every voice, and ensuring that everyone has a stake in our shared future,” Julie stated.
Julie’s connection to the area began in 1991 when she was stationed at Scott Air Force Base. Shortly after, she settled in O’Fallon, where she has lived for more than thirty years. She earned her bachelor’s degree with majors in mathematics and biology, later working in the biomedical field. Julie continued her education, earning a PhD in Research Pathology, and completed post-doctoral research before dedicating a decade to volunteering in the O’Fallon Township school system. Recently, she has returned to her scientific roots, contributing to advancements in Multiple Myeloma research.
“This campaign is about more than seeking office—it’s about changing the future for all residents of IL-12,” Julie emphasized. “I will fight for funding for education and healthcare, create jobs for those affected by regional disinvestment, and support our brothers and sisters in organized labor as they help build a renewed legacy for Southern Illinois. I am honored to ask for your trust and your vote as we embark on this journey together.”
