A rural Enfield man has been cleared of charges following an investigation into a June 17th act of vandalism at Carmi Family Dental. Chad Garrett was initially identified as a suspect after Carmi Police reviewed video surveillance footage and requested he come in for questioning.
According to Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter, Garrett initially agreed to speak with officers but later chose to seek legal representation. Subsequently, a warrant was obtained after a formal complaint was filed on July 28th. Garrett turned himself in on August 4th, and his first court appearance was set for September 3rd.
However, further investigation revealed new evidence. Fingerprints lifted from the crime scene were processed and indicated that another individual was responsible. On August 28th, White County State’s Attorney Chris Neal dropped all charges against Garrett.
Chief Carter confirmed that there is now an active warrant for the person police believe actually committed the crime. The Carmi Police Department continues to pursue the case and urges anyone with information to come forward.
