PATRIOT’S PEN ESSAY CONTEST OFFERS SCHOLARSHIPS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS

By Mark Wells Oct 15, 2025 | 11:56 AM

The Wayne County Memorial VFW Post 4535 in Fairfield is inviting local middle school students to participate in the annual Patriot’s Pen essay contest—an opportunity to win scholarships and showcase their patriotism.

Each year, more than 68,000 students nationwide enter the contest, which challenges youth in grades 6–8 to write a 300- to 400-word essay on a patriotic theme. Local winners advance to state and national competitions, with the top national prize set at $5,000.

This year’s theme encourages young writers to reflect on what patriotism means to them and how they honor America’s veterans. The contest aims to help students develop their writing skills while fostering a deeper appreciation for American values and service.

Students interested in participating can obtain entry forms and additional information from Wayne County Memorial VFW Post 4535 in Fairfield. The deadline for submissions is October 31st, and all essays must be submitted by midnight.
