>>Browns’ David Bell Retires

(Cleveland, OH) — A once-promising wide receiver is calling it quits. David Bell announced his retirement on Tuesday. The Browns placed him on the non-football injury list to open training camp, and the 24-year-old hasn’t played a snap since suffering a season-ending hip injury early last year. Bell was taken by Cleveland in the third round of the 2022 draft and finished his career with three touchdowns.

>>Dodgers Silence Brewers To Take 2-0 NLCS Lead

(Undated) — The Dodgers have a commanding lead in the National League Championship Series. Yoshinobu Yamamoto threw a complete game and surrendered just one run to give his side a 5-1 win over the Brewers from Milwaukee. LA will try to take a stranglehold of the best-of-seven series when it shifts to Los Angeles for Game Three on Thursday. Meanwhile, the ALCS resumes on Wednesday with a crucial Game Three from Seattle. The Mariners stole home field away from the Blue Jays and are ahead 2-0 in the series.

>>Trial Against Angels Over Pitcher’s Death Underway

(Santa Ana, CA) — Opening statements were made Tuesday in the wrongful death civil trial surrounding the Los Angeles Angels’ responsibility for the death of former pitcher Tyler Skaggs. Skaggs died from an overdose in 2019 that was linked to pills sold by former Angels communications manager Eric Kay. The attorney that delivered the plaintiff’s opening statement blamed the Angels for his death and said the franchise put him in harm’s way because of Kay’s continued employment. Kay is serving a 22-year prison sentence for providing the fentanyl-laced oxycodone pill that killed Skaggs. The Angels’ attorney insisted that the team was not aware of the pitcher’s drug issues or that Kay had been providing him with pills. He mentioned that the franchise wished that it had known of Skaggs’ challenges with drugs so that they could have helped him. The case is expected to take six weeks and continues Wednesday morning.

>>Report: Mavericks Sign HC Jason Kidd To Extension

(Undated) — The Mavericks are locking up their head coach with a new contract. ESPN is reporting that Dallas is signing Jason Kidd to a multi year contract extension. The extension follows heavy interest from the New York Knicks during their search for a new coach over the summer. The Mavs declined to give the Knicks permission to speak to Kidd about the job. The 52-year-old Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer has a 179-and-149 record during his four years leading the Mavs. His previous extension came during the team’s 2024 playoff run after the Los Angeles Lakers had shown interest in hiring him.

>>Oilers Shut Out Rangers

(New York, NY) — The Oilers collected their second win of the season after shutting out the Rangers 2-0 at Madison Square Garden. Trent Frederic scored his first of the season and Stuart Skinner stopped all 30 shots he faced. Edmonton now has five points. The Rangers are now the first team in NHL history to be shut out in each of their first three home games. New York remains at four points.

>>Capitals Edge Lightning In OT To Extend Streak

(Washington, D.C.) — The Capitals extended their winning streak after grounding the Lightning 3-2 in overtime from DC. Tom Wilson tied the game with an early third period goal while Jakob Chychrun [[ CHIHK-ruhn ]] ended the game about a minute-and-a-half into OT. Washington has won three in-a-row. Jake Guentzel and Brayden Point scored for Tampa, which slipped to 1-2-and-1.

>>Penn State Football Comments On Franklin Firing

(University Park, PA) — Penn State’s athletic director is shedding light on the recent firing of head football coach James Franklin. Pat Kraft told the media on Tuesday the decision was not made over a “three-game thing” and the goal is to win a national championship. Franklin was let go after the Nittany Lions suffered an upset loss to Northwestern last weekend. The 53-year-old had an abysmal record against elite schools since taking over in 2014.
